Napoleon's army did not march to or through Russia as a single unit.
Part of Napoleon's army under the command of General Schwartzenberg
and general Reyner started on their campaign from Poland, camped near
Lviv,
continued to Lutsk and fought a great battle at Pruzhany near Brest
Litovsk.
It is quite likely that fancy food was prepared for the high command
by cooks
who were part of their retinue.
But "Baba" is neither a French or an Austrian word.
In Ukrainian and Russian it is a very common word.
It is more likely that the french chefs learned to make "Baba au Rum"
from the Ukrainians, Poles or Russians, than the other way around.
