Our new list member is from Montevideo.
How can this be connected to Czernowitz ?
Montevideo lies on the Rio de la Plata
or River Plate that has a delta of 250 km width.
Here in 1939 the german cruiser Admiral Graf Spee
was scuttled after being hit.
This defeat of the german navy cased immense
joy among the Czernowitzer Jews.
  From the Ham to Morario.
This is how the Klocuczka and Rio de la Plata
  were connected.

נושא: [Cz-L] My first contact

"

Hi, everybody.

My name is Beatriz Rauch. I was born in Montevideo, Uruguay but my parents,
Gusta Feller and Paul Martin Rauch, along with my older brother Carmi were
born in Czernowitz and arrived in Uruguay in 1948. My four grandpartents
also were from Bukovina.

I came across your website and list by chance: I was telling my youngest
son about a famous cake my mother used to bake: the "Schmetten-Torte" and I
decided to google the name and try to find a recipe. And that was when I
found the series of recipes my mother used to prepare back at home, many of
which I haven't eaten in years. It was a huge pleasure.

Since then, I have been reading some posts and I really congratulate you
for the job you are doing to keep the memories of Czernowitz and Czernowitz
people alive and available.

Thank you for letting me be part of your group.

Best regards,

Beatriz Rauch
