Mimi managed to obtain for me a birth certificate almost a year ago.
However, the certificate we are talking about is not from the official
Municipality's archives; it is photo-copy from the Jewish Community's
register of births and deaths. I am not sure whether, for practical
purposes, it would be considered as valid as an official Municipality
document. There is a possibility that, in June 1940, the official archives
were taken by the Romanian authorities either to Bucharest or somewhere
else in South Bucovina.

Subject: Re: [Cz-L] Czernowitz Archives Question...

The question of obtaining a copy of a birth certificate from the
Chernivtsi archives
has recently been asked a number of times, so here is the information
I have.
It is possible for someone in Chernivtsi to obtain such a copy for
another person,
provided they can prove that they have been authorized to do so by
the person
who's birth-certificate they want a copy of.
There is a fee for obtaining the copy, but it is not much.

I would advise anyone who wants to obtain a copy of a birth-
certificate to contact
one of the tour-guides or translators in Chernivtsi and ask them
whether they
are willing to provide this service and how much they would charge
for doing so.

Zoya Danilovich is the guide/translator who has helped me previously and
I can recommend her highly as being reliable and trustworthy.
