Dear Hardy,

thank you for the warm words! During the last years, I learned I share my interest with others. A ground breaking work and inspiration were the photos by Chris Schwarz in the Galician Jewish Museum in Krakow as well as the photos by Andrzei Polec in his book "Zapomniani". Schwarz documented the traces of Jewish life in western Galicia; Polec photograped what is left in eastern Galicia. Both books are still available. In early January I had the privilege to meet Jason Francisco who documents the remains of Jewish life in eastern Galicia since years. Some of his photos were recently added to the permanent exhibition of the Galician Jewish museum and a well done catalogue was published. Much more of his work is on-line: http://jasonfrancisco.net/an-unfinished-memory
Jason was travelling the same routes I did, and many of the locations he documented may look familiar to you. Dutch photographer Dolph Kessler made a great book about Lviv (Lwow, Lemberg), the best photo portrait of the city I ever saw, paying special attention to its Jewish past and present. Last but not least, let's not forget the great photos of list member Sylvia de Swaan - in particular her impressive "return" series.

Warm wishes,
Christian

Christian, the pictures are class.
The photographic aspect, important as it is ,
is not the most important feature here.
You are doing top historic pictures.
Not many touch this subject,
Jews don’t get high rating today.
Even dead Jews.

Hardy

Dear all,

At the turn of the year I traveled in Ukraine again. This time I was in
Volhynia (Volhyn), a historical region between Galicia and Belarus. My trip
took me to Trochenbrod, Lutsk, Rivne, Dubno and Ostroh. Back in Lviv, I made
an excursion to Olesko and Busk in Galicia. Now I have completed a selection
of black and white photos of the trip.
