Hardy....you could not be more wrong. Under the very benevolent rule of the Habsburg Emperor our people did very well. They were a small %age of the population...but they were close to 20% of the Reserve Officer Corp. There were Jewish Generals etc...and if an officer made anti-Semitic comments to a Jewish one they were charged. Many Jews were given titles of Nobility. The Regiments had "Feldrabbiner".At the end of WW1 the second in command of the whole Army was a Jew. Compare the lives of the Czernowitzers under Austria with life under the Romanians!! I could go on..but that will do for a start!! Cornel. PS and there was never an Austrian Dreyfus!

Cornel,
Jews were not counted at all .
No matter how patriotic they were and how much they loved the Kaiser.
My father was also a soldier who fought in Montenegro and at the Isonzo and was wounded.
Our love for the Habsburgs was one-sided.
They fell apart after a senseless war that caused
millions of casualties without achieving anything
  at all .
Should we be proud for participating in this war?
   "But they killed our Ferdinand!"

  Hardy
