As a native of Czernowitz, but now living in Cluj, I feel obligedto defend =
the =E2=80=9Dhonor=E2=80=9D of Cluj. The =E2=80=9Cwatercolored synagogue=E2=
=80=9D is not the Ohel Mosche Synagogue, but a formersynagogue, now hired b=
y to a society =E2=80=9CCasa Tranzit=E2=80=9D, which uses it to organizedif=
ferent cultural events (exhibitions, performances). Another former synagogu=
eis now the Institute for Judaism and Hebrew History of the University. The=
 OhelMosche Synagogue is only a prayer room used during the cold season, wh=
ile the =E2=80=9CMoorishstyle=E2=80=9D Synagogue (former neolog synagogue) =
is used for important eventsin the Community. There were of course Pesach s=
ervices in the Ohel MoscheSynagogue and two collective seders in the kosher=
 restaurant of the Community. Thelocal community is small and most of its m=
embers are old, but there are alsomore then 100 Jewish students in Cluj (mo=
stly from Israeland France). =C2=A0I=E2=80=99m sorry that the bad weather(i=
t is now snowing) prevented Christian to get a better impression of the tow=

Welcome Christian to Cluj.
I can assure you that Cluj has a future like
everything else in this world.
 The buildings are similar to those in Czenowitz
built in the same style.
 But they do not have the same magic that
Czernowitz has.

to me as I just got up and cannot concentrate ,=20

Dear all,
My Romanian journey started. Today I arrived in Cluj-Napoca (Kolozsv=C3=A1r=
, Klausenburg), a city in Transylvania (Siebenb=C3=BCrgen). The city looks =
run down, maybe also because of the gray weather. I looked at the crumbling=
 facades and wondered if there is a future beyond the visible past. Two syn=
agogues are preserved. One that looks like a strange functional building an=
d a second in Moorish style. Tomorrow I will travel further with my friends=
 Petra and Achim to Suceava, the starting point of our journey through Sout=
hern Bukovina.
