"Die Flucht" - the Flight from the Russians in WW1 was a traumatic event
which was mentioned many times in the history of our family. They fled to
Moravia "Moeren", and remained there more then two years. When they returned
my father joined the army - Austrian army.

Hello all

My family (Fenster and Zacharias) also fled to Vienna for the duration of
the First World War, my mother tells me they were not expelled but left of
their own accord. She remembers that only those with the means to pay for
such travel could make this move.

They were frightened out of Bukovina by the advance of the Russian army in
1915 - scared of rape and pillage by the arriving Cossacks who had been
causing mayhem in Galicia.

My family returned to Czernowitz in 1918.
