My grandmother, Pessie Stadler Spiegel, was also from Kolomea . . . fortunately she, her husband Mordecai Spiegel and my mother Pearl Spiegel Fichman avoided the deportation to Transnistria (from Czernowitz, where they lived). They escaped just by a hair, through a lot of hard work and a lot of luck, as my mother wrote in her memoirs, Before Memories Fade.
