Today, as you probably know, is the Armenian Holocaust Rememberance Day.
Edgar Hilsenrath born in Halle, Germany (who moved to Sereth, near
Czernowitz during the war and was deported to Transnistria ) published
his novel "Das Märchen vom letzten Gedanken" ( Story of the last
thought), an important novel about the Armenian people's sufferings and
in 1989 received the prestigious Alfred-Döblin Award. Edgar himself
told us about an invitation to Erevan, where he was celebrated like a
national hero. I wonder if they still remember him nowadays and his
novel in Armenia. He lives in Berlin.
The first well-known novel on this topic was Franz Werfel's "The 40 days
of Musa Dagh" which was a big success.
