I am currently reading a new book.."For God and Kaiser" by Richard Bassett.
Some of the bits of information...."under Kaiser Franz Joseph anti-Semitism
was a penal offence. The Emperor even intervened personally when he thought
Jewish officers in his Army were victims of discrimisation." Another
bit..."By 1918 the most highly decorated regiments were made up of Bosnian
Muslims and alpine Catholics and frequently commanded by Jewish officers"!
But by far the most fascinating facts relate to 1918 and what to my mind was
Emperor Karl's biggest mistake. Some parts of the Empire were breaking
away...but not all..and a large part of the Isonzo Army under General
Boroevic was ready to move to Vienna to save the Monarchy...but Karl in deep
depression did not give the order!! It makes absolutely fascinating
thinking and trying to imagine a "What If" situation involving Karl followed
by Otto on the Habsburg Throne!!!! Cornel,
