Poetry:
Not only Schiller .We had local poets.
One was Alfred Margul -Sperber.
He wrote :
"Judenfriedhof .
Eine Ziege weidet deines Ahnen Grab,
Und ihr Bart im Wind flattert auf und ab.
Weht das Gras im Wind, flutet weit und weich,
Ihre Augen blicken Judenaugen gleich.
Traegt die Ziege deines ahnen Bart ?
Traurig ist ihr Auge und von fremder Art.
Wie ein alter Jude lehnt das Graeberhaus,
Rauft der Wind sein Barthaar,
Ziege rupft es aus."
I have tried to translate it but found the
translation inadequate.
It did not transmit the message.
Can somebody do it ?
My mother, the Mutti ,wiped off a tear.
"Why are you weeping, Mutti ?
" I was thinking of something sad"
