Edgar, I thank you so much for your visit to this cemetery in Bershad and
for paying your respects to my grandparents and aunt, and the thousands of
those who perished there through your travels and your blog, and by
assisting in keeping this precious heritage alive.
The gentleman who speaks in your video helped my family in planning and
erecting the memorial stone, and he now looks after it for us.
For those who would like to learn about our family journey and the
establishment of this memorial please go to the following link:

I am very blessed to still have my Czernowitz-born mother Cecilia Zydower
(nee Zacharias), alive, highly functioning, and independent. I will share
your email with her, and with my Israeli cousins as this was a family
project driven by my beloved cousin Sabina Brecher æ'ì nee Ziller, who was
also born in Czernowitz and was a survivor of the Bershad Ghetto.
We thank the Almighty that despite the tragic losses in our family, our
surviving parents built meaningful and productive Jewish lives and
established a strong, proud Jewish family that remembers and celebrates its
heritage and cherishes its precious relationships.
Kind regards
Miriam Suss OAM

Czernowitzers...
Please join me for the 8th stage of my motorcycle ride to E/SE and let us
spend a visit to the Jewish Community of Bershad, this so extremely
meaningful place for many Jews from Bukovina:

Was it the introduction by Andrzej Polec from Warsaw, was it the hospitality
of the Jews from Bershad, was it their vivid interest in my travel
experiences or was it at the end of the day my feeling of attachment to
them? I don't know, any way, the reception in the two hundred years old
synagogue by about half of the remaining - fourty - Jews of Bershad was
awesome, but decide by yourself...?!
