Thank you Edgar for sending us information about the synagogues of Varna and this having been been the port of departure of the Struma.
Many other clandestine immigrant ships sailed from Varna.
In either December 1947 or January 1948, two ships registered in Panama under the names "Pan Crescent" and "Pan York" left Varna with a very large number of Romanian Jews hoping to get to Palestine.
As soon as they entered the Mediterranean Sea they were surrounded by British destroyers and forced to go to Cyprus.
Quite a few Czernowitzers were on these two ships.
