And over 3 months earlier, Erev Yom Kippur Tashakh (September 1947), two other Haapala ships sailed from Burgas - the Northland ice breaker and the Paducah, later renamed Haggana ships Medinat Hayehudim and Geulah, resp., - and were overcome by British destroyers just outside Palestinian waters, and brought into Haifa harbour on October 2. There were a number of Czernowitzes on these boats, and we were transferred to Cyprus thereafter.
Those were the days...
