It is amazing that there still live witnesses to tell the truth.
Apropos Christian Herman’s video of an old peasant’s testimony, I would like to add another one.
in my research at the
Library of Congress in 1989, I found a similar testimony, which I included in my book Ruth’s Journey, chapter 5.
"The Romanian newspaper Scanteya, dated October 1944, carried the following account of the village Valegotilovo:
In the path of the Nazi-Sympathizers: Children buried alive in Transnistria
The Nazi beasts have plundered all the countries they have occupied, but never has their savagery manifested itself so much as in the U.S.S.R. where hundreds of thousands of Jews have fallen to the cruelty of these beasts. The Ukraine itself became the Nazi execution field.
Let the documents speak. Here is what Constinenko from the village of Valegotilovo declared:
"The village was occupied by the Germans on Aug. 6, 1941, at mid-day. Immediately the shooting of Jews and Communists started. A lot of people hid in the fields. The special S.S. units intercepted them and started a hunt. The beautiful girls were distributed among the officers, then shot after they had been used. . . The executions were done in trenches, 500 meters from the edge of the village. The men would form one group, women and children another. They kneeled facing the edge of the trench. The Germans passed by on horseback and shot them in the head. The screams of the women and children would make you tremble. . . The pregnant women were shot in the abdomen. Sometimes they were slit open and the child would fall out. Children under two years of age were buried alive.
"When the last remnants of life had been extinguished, the criminals would wipe off the blood on their weapons and hands using the faces and clothes of the victims. Then they started to sing, eat and drink while the unfortunate peasants covered the dead with dirt.“
