Czernowitzers...
For those using mobile devices, iPhones, iPads, Adroid phones and
tablets, you might find the 'Almost Mobile Friendly' version of our
website easier to use than the regular version created before there were
such things as mobile devices.
Mr. Google sent me a snarky note a while back telling me that our
website is not 'mobile friendly' -- which means it's harder to use than
it might be on small touch screens. So as punishment, they were/are
going to going to change our ranking and thus where we are positioned
when someone does a Google search on 'czernowitz'. Yikes!
What does mobile friendly mean? How to find out? Well, Google has an
answer for everything -- they have a test; you type in the webiste
address (URL), and hit Enter, and boom, they tell you what's wrong with
it and how to fix it.
http://czernowitz.ehpes.com failed every section
of the test. Rather off-putting.
So, I decided to do a quick revamp to see if I could improve my score
and boost my diminished self esteem along with our ranking.
But what is our ranking? I just had a look... We are second, right
after Wikipedia -- not shabby at all, I thought -- what could be better
than beating out JewishGen? "Self", I said -- a few hours work and
we'll be #1, no?
NO... the Almost Mobile Friendly version (AMF) failed every measure,
same as the original version. There were no numerical marks, just
Pass/Fail, so I couldn't tell if their robots liked it better than the
original.
Still, at the end of the day, I found the AMF version was indeed easier
for me to use with my iPhone than the regular version, Google
notwithstanding. Add to that, that JewishGen failed the test also, and
I don't feel so bad.
I pass the AMF on to you, for whatever it's worth:
