The introduction is quite a hoot: book is published in order to assist
Bukowiner to learn a more pure German. It's not really a German land,
most people there speak Ukrainian (and a smattering of other languages);
only a fifth speak German. That German is the main and official language
is not due to the German settlers who came here early on, much less to
the Jews, who speak a Judendeutsch that is incomprehensible to the
average German. Rather: because no other language had enough status to
replace German. etc. etc.
