ry surprised expression! I know I will get yelled at...but it is what I fe=

Subject: [Cz-L] The statue on Heinegasse

Reading a long discussion about a statue on Heinegasse I thought about a f=
amous monument to Heinrich Heine himself in Düsseldorf's Schwanenmarkt=
.
As can be clearly seen in the pictures ( https://goo.gl/bKKVyD https://goo.=
gl/fxK9PH ) the sculpture by Bert Gerresheim features a very long and a ver=
y crooked nose, and when it was unveiled in 1981, it also generated some ac=
cusations of anti-semitic stereotyping. The only problem was that the sculp=
ture was modeled on the Heine's death mask, and indeed Heinrich Heine had=
a long and crooked nose (which we also know from his writings). So, is Hei=
nrich-Heine-Denkmal anti-semitic? I don't think so. And I don't think it is=
the case with a cute little sculpture in Chernivtsi.

Iosif
