Hardy,
I remember my mother was very proud of her German. She told us, her
children, that it was "hoch Deutch". Along came a very close Viennese
relative who would not even want to speak one word in German with her
because it sounded horrible and even ludicrous. My mother answered in
Yiddish (which I forgot): "What does he know!" and made a gesture with her
hand that I listened to as "FEI!" or something like that.
Have a nice evening,
Sally
