I had exactly such curly hair. While I yearned to wear it loose, my mother=
never allowed it.
To my chagrin, I had to wear two thick braids with bows at the ends. This w=
as my style until Yampol-Transnistria, where the braids had to be cut off =
due to lice infestation.
A few days later, a barber, who shared the shelter with us, shaved my head =
to shocking baldness. I was 11 years old when I was robbed of my identity=
, humiliated, and no longer looked like a girl for the next 3 years.
