Czernowitzers...

Fellow member Patrick Teller from Paris, after checking the "Jewish Taxpaye=
rs in Bukovina at the End of 18th Century", raised the following questions:

let me ask
is the domesticum a tax ?
if it is this means that the list of tax payers is the full list of all
the jews ?

Please have a look at the visualization of the "Statistical Chart Covering =
the Population Growth of the Bukovinian Jews between 1774 – 1914" as per =
Dr. Salomon Kassner’s book "The Jews in Bukovina", R. Löwit, Vienna/Ber=
lin, 1917, p. 43 at our eheps.com Blog:

http://ehpes.com/blog1/2015/11/10/jewish-population-in-bukovina-between-177=
4-1914/

2 x "yes", dear Patrick, i. e. yes, "domesticum" was a tax category and, ye=
s, I assume that taxpayers list, published at

http://czernowitz.blogspot.de/2014/05/jewish-taxpayers-in-bukovina-at-end-o=
f.html

covered more or less all Jews living in the Czernowitz District at the end =
of 18th century (i. e. about 430 families with 2,400 souls); in addition ca=
me about 190 families from the Suczawa District. Therefore, considering the=
comparatively low Jewish population number, it's for sure a "lucky goal" t=
o discover an ancestor's name among the taxpayers list.
