Tocz was usually about 5 cm. or 2" tall.
It was made of raw grated potatoes, flour, eggs, yeast and salt
And baked in an oiled square tin.
In Czernowitz, it typically did not include either onions or garlic.
On the subject of onions: they were included raw and chopped fine
In Vinete, egg salad, bean salad and of course in chopped herring
And chopped chicken livers.
They were also included fried: in soups, meat stews, pot roasts,
fillings for Knishes, Pirogen, Mayine, etc.
Generally they were not eaten boiled and were not included
In Tocz or malai.
