Neither previously, nor now, do I understand why there needs to be
A memorial to the ghetto in Chernivtsi.
The ghetto was the least of our problems. I know, because I was in the ghetto
from Oct. 11th till the ghetto closed at the end of November.
A memorial to the Holocaust as it affected the Jews of Czernowitz and the Jews
living in the neighboring villages and small towns is much, much more important.
The murder of the prominent Jews in Czernowitz, the atrocities committed in the villages,
Both by local inhabitants and roaming bands, the deportations to Transnistria,
Are all far more important.
