Hello Everyone,

I am new to the group and glad to have found such an impressive representation of the Chernowitz diaspora. I
myself am part of the most recent (and likely last) great migration of the Chernowitz Jews and currently living in California, USA. My father (Ilya Khoch), however, still lives in Chernowitz and is very active in

the Jewish community causes and preserving our history. As part of these initiatives, he has been spearheading the construction of a Holocaust memorial on the site of the former Jewish ghetto. Please see information about the project here:

The project has been in the works for quite some time and construction is currently under way (please check the provided links for frequent updates). The projected unveiling of the memorial is the week of
October 4th, to coincide with the celebrations of the City Day. Given the importance of this project, I offered to lead the fundraising efforts to help complete the memorial. We thought that a grassroots approach would be most meaningful. Please message me privately if you are interested in more information or have suggestions or visit and share the above links. If you plan to visit Chernowitz during the first week of October, you should attend the unveiling ceremony (assuming they finish in time).

Regards,

Kira Kimhi
