Hi Mimi, Alexander,
I remember thatm in the _at_Gymnasialgasse@, the Liceul 1 de Baieti, named in =
the romanian time Liceuyl Aron Pumnul...
Omn the Entrace/door was a plaque that the bog romanian poet Mihai Eminescu=
 studiet some years in this school,,,
May be that the Sovjets put a plaque for Manfres Stern, I van/t believe it,=
 because after his heroic days he was sent to the Gulag in the northern Kam=
tchatka..
The other Czernowitzer who was deported there was Peter Demant, my classmat=
e in the Comenius/school. deported with mother and second father to Sibir,=
  left and went to the frontiere, where he was kept and sent to Kamtscharka=
 for 25 years,,,he was amnestied, married a russian journaliste and lived i=
n Moscow. He wrote 10 books . He visited Israel, his sister lived in Tela A=
viv and came to our baccalaureat/aniversary of 60 years...He died some yea=
srs ago and let his private library to the Czernowitz library by hid last w=
ill,,,He is in the Wikipedia too..

Mimi,

you probably saw his plaque on the school no. 1, between the Ringplatz and =
the Theaterplatz (forgot the previous name).
He finished this high school as many other famous and less famous people, l=
ike me :-)
I think to remember the plaque being there in the 60s.
