For nearly one decade the Jewish Bukovina Vital Records stored at the civil office registry of Radauti remained books of seven seals to us. My first attempt to recover these treasures, at that time together with my late good friend Dorin Fraenkel, was as early as 2008. Of course, individual inquiries were always feasible, but a methodical research failed due to legal and/or administrative restrictions. Now, just in time for the upcoming 36th IAJGS in Seattle, the "Books of Seven Seals in Radauti and Suceava" came to light:

Based on an authorization by the recently appointed mayor Nistor Tatar, I succeeded to digitize the records by taking approx. 7,500 high resolution images. Now, we hold in our hands the full set of available vital records for Radautz and its neighboring localities Vicov and Solca, including the priceless index records. It will take us months if not years, but hopefully not another decade, to analyze the results and make them available to the public.
This mission being finally accomplished, as from today we are on the road again. "Stay tuned" for new adventures!
