Hi,
Does anyone know whether any Jewish records exist from the towns
currently known as Yizhivtsi, Ukraine and Chudey, Ukraine?
Specifically, I am looking for records from the late 1800s or early
1900s. These two towns are next to each other, and right near
Storozhynets. Yizhivtsi has also been known as Jdzestie, Idzesti,
Igesti, etc. Chudey has also been as Czudin, Ciudun, etc.
The immigration papers of my great grandmother (born Sarah
Lazar/Leiser) state that she was born in "Yeczest". I suspect that
this was a reference to "Idzesti". To the extent it is of interest to
anyone, her father's name was Israel and her mother's name was Leah.
On a related note, I wrote the Suceava Archives to obtain a marriage
record of one of Sarah's brothers who I believe married in Suceava in
1910 or 1911. I was told that they have no marriage records from that
time period. Am I out of luck? Does anyone have any ideas of how I
might find the marriage record?
