Hi, Hedwig and List Members
Very surprised that you just received your book copy. I received it two
days after ordering it. Your publisher saved postage on you, or is your
local post so slow. Needless to say, still reading and enjoying it, not
only about my daughter but discovering quite a few names familiar or not.

As to your new great enterprise don't forget, of course, Sarah
Bernhardt, and our great actress, who by the way speaks a wonderful
Jiddish too, and learnt Hebrew perfectly after having been a great
Jiddish actress in Romania: Lya König! Wish you strength, good health and
exciting research.
Don't forget Beate Friedmann, from Czernowitz, sports
colleague with my mother, who changed her name in Romania in Fredanov,
and had a big career in the Romanian theatre, and as a convinced communist.

By the way, my husband speaks a lovely Czernowitz/Bukowinian Jiddish, I
understand but lack vocabulary. What a humorous and rich language!

When my mother, her sisters and brother, met, they automatically started
speaking Jiddish. Just a few years ago. We listened and boy, did we
enjoy it. They spoke of their youth in Czernowitz, of their parents and
friends, were happy and young again.

Gabriele
