During the WW2 years Jewish children could not attend school.
The Russians entered Czernowitz in late March 1944.
A few weeks later, sometime in late April or early May, the Jiddish school
Was opened on the Siebenburgerürger Str.
The first grade schoolroom was quite full, most probably it held about 30 children,
Among them, Arthur and I. We had no textbooks, instead we used
the book of fables Of Eliezer Steinbarg.
First grade lasted only till mid-June, but after the summer vacation
We returned to second grade and continued to study from Eliezer Stainbarg's fables.
I still remember some of the fables and the accompanying drawings very vividly.

Thanks so much for taking the time and trouble to scan and post this. Do we know anything about the people that illustrated the book - or the place that printed them?"
