Hello Mr. Mercer,
My Maternal grandmother, Fani Kriegsmann's, maiden name was Korner (Kerner,
Karner). She died at the age of 38 from a brain tumor. She died on
6/21/1928 in Czernowitz where she was living with her husband, Kalman Lieb
Kriegsmann and their four children at Steingasse 20 and was buried in the
Sadagura Jewish cemetery on 6/22/1928. Her parents were Hersch and Chaje
Karner from Sadagura. My maternal grandfather, Kalman Lieb Kriegsmann, was
born in Toporwitz somewhere around 1883.
I have been unable to find Kalman Lieb's birth certificate.

Questions:
1) is it possible that your wife may be related to Fani Korner (Kerner
Karner)? Her siblings were Louis, Sally (Sali), Meyer, Morris (Moshe), Rose
(Raisal), Ruchel (lived in Montevido Uruguay) and Willie (lived in Israel).
I was able to locate a photographic copy (on microfilm) of Fani's death
certificate at the Mormon West Los Angeles genealogical center.
Would you know how or where I might be able to find my maternal
grandfather's (Kalman Lieb Kriegsmann) Toporwitz birth certificate or copy
thereof?

Thank you Mr. Mercer.

 Sincerely,
Gary Rogovin

My wife is a Kerner descended from a Kerner family of Toporivtsi
(Toporwitz), located a little way northeast of Czernowitz. She's also
related by marriage to the Winkler and Lohner families from the same town.

To help support my genealogy work, and that of other families from the
area, I've created a "Jewish Families of Czernowitz-Sadhora-Storojinet,
Bukovina" project at Geni.com:
https://www.geni.com/projects/Jewish-Families-of-Czernowitz-Sadhora-Storojinet-Bukovina/40711

Since Geni is one of the major genealogy sites online, and allows free
accounts and Google search access to their One World Tree, I believe it's
a
good place to bridge the genealogy of families and the history of these
towns. If anyone believes I've gotten any facts wrong on the page, please
let me know.

Eric
