Some of my friends growing up in Curacao referred the the source of gossip
rumor-mongering about members of the local Ashkenazi community as the IPA,
an expression they must have heard of from their Europe-born Yiddish
speaking parents.

There is also a reference to a =E2=80=9CBabske Radio=E2=80=9D (old-wives ra=
dio) in the
film, A Shtetl in the Caribbean, when my friend Tsale asked a
Yiddish-speaking elderly woman living in Israel how she=E2=80=99d heard tha=
t his
mother had survived the Holocaust. I later learned that a film by this name
was made about a village near Kiev.
