Dear Cora Schwartz,
Thank you for your sincere interest to state of affairs of Chernivtsi Jews. Unfortunately, I have to inform you sad news:
The status of 600 Jews under guardianship has been significantly complicated after death of permanent director of Hesed, Leonid Fuks in 2016 and after termination of Hesed's funding by "Joint" in 2017.
Thank to G-d, Hesed continues to function, but we do not have enough resources for many things.
As one of Hesed founders, I fully realize my share of responsibility for the position of Hesed and Chernivtsi Jews.
That is why Chernivtsi Central Synagogue, where I have been serving as a rabbi for 25 years, is helping Hesed and his wards.
This is financing program of hot meals for almost 100 poor Jews, as well as providing the people with clothes, and much more.
But, unfortunately, possibilities of the Synagogue are also limited.
Dear Cora Schwartz, in connection with the above, we will be grateful for any help that can be provided to Chernivtsi Jewish community.
