Dear Sarah,
Am a bit late with the information but I would like to add a few words
about Selma. My mother, nee Ria Meerbaum, was her second cousin, and
much older. Selma's father was a first cousin of my maternal
grand-father, Abraham Meerbaum. In the thirties the families lived
quite near from each other, on Bilaergasse. My mother remembered when
Selma was born, her father brought her to show her to the family. Selma
was younger and had other interests than my mother, who was out all day
in winter on the snow-covered hills of Cecina, also skating, swimming
and running 100m. in sommer. Sports. Selma was a dreamy girl, often
together with her girl-friends and who loved reading, whatever books she
could get her hands on..
My mother used to say that there were quite a few Meerbaums in
Czernowitz, and her brother maintained that they were all related. I
once visited Selmas uncle in Haifa, however when I later looked for
other relatives in Israel and found some persons named Meerbaum, they
said that they were not of that family, which frankly I doubt.
I am very sorry that I put this e-mail on "save" and forgot to reply.
Maybe this bit of information is still of some value for you. Do let me
know.
Wishing you a very happy and healthy and successful New Year.
Gabriele Weissmann
P.S. I also tried to mail you this, there was a mistake in the e-mail
address, my fault, I now saw it in your mail to the Cz-List
