Thanks again, dear Edgar,
It was a real pleasure to see and hear those personalities, 22 years ago !
They deserve being remembered.
Me too, I liked the slow and intimate pace of the documentary.
Then, in 1999, Volker Koepp produced "Herr Zwilling and Frau Zuckermann" - a
masterpiece of the genre.
( I think I recognized Mr. Zwilling in the commemoration scene. Am I right?)
Best wishes ,
HAPPY PESSACH to All !
Irene

Subject: [Cz-L] Greetings from Bukovina, a German (ZDF) Documentary from the
Year 1995
Czernowitzers...
Earlier today I drew your attention on Dara Horn's article on Itzik Manger:
https://goo.gl/prPysN
Literature runs like a common thread to most of the reports from Czernowitz
and Bukovina. The outstanding German (ZDF) documentary from the year 1995,
now available at our Ehpes Blog
http://ehpes.com/blog1/?p=10391
visualizes this perception once again. Another exceptional and touching
reencounter with Erwin Chargaff, Gregor von Rezzori, Paul Celan, Josef Burg,
Edgar Hilsenrath and others. Two points are striking to me:
- Unlike today's very condensed reports, this documentary takes the time to
listen to Paul Celan reciting his "Deathfugue"
[
http://czernowitzart.blogspot.de/] in full; very moving!
- It's very interesting that as early as 1995 (!) volunteers from all over
the world were already clearing the Czernowitz Jewish Cemetery of weeds;
very insightful interviews!
