1. Aharon Appelfeld was a prolific Israeli author, whose works were =
translated into many languages. Appelfeld was born in Czernowitz and was =
a Holocaust survivor of Transnistria.
2. Professor Zvi Yavetz was born in Czernowitz, also a survivor of =
Transnistria. Prof. Yavetz was a leading Israeli historian, emeritus =
professor of ancient history at Tel-Aviv University.
