Hi Dietmar

That sounds amazing! And it prompts me to share with you - all - some information about my father’s first cousin (my second), Robert Rosen.

He was a very gifted musician. I know nothing of his early career in Czernowitz but I can tell you that after migrating to Australia (Melbourne) he became the principal conductor and musical director of The Australian Ballet. He conducted for Nureyev and Fontaine (at their insistence, on their final tour; I attended, a marvellous teenage memory) and also toured overseas. A heart condition forced him to retire from conducting but he continued to work in music, as a teacher, and is fondly remembered by his students.

As a truly great alumni of Czernowitz, I thought his story would be of interest.

Best
Rick

I am especially grateful to Joe Poras, who sponsored the re-orchestration of the waltz “Studentenliebe” (A student’s love), a piece composed by his grandmother Eleonore in 1914, and, according to the Czernowitzer Allgemeine Zeitung – the hit of the ball season of 1914! (the waltz will be performed at the opening concert, which is dedicated to string orchestra works)
