Czernowitzers...

These photos, together with Alfred's enlightening comments, mirror the cultural mood in pre-WW2 Bukovina. No doubt about, Alfred is completely right by stating: "Yes, as our parents certainly felt it, the Romanian rule was a painful change from the Golden Years of the Austrian administration and eventually led to the destruction of a unique civilization created over little more than a century."
On the other hand, what would have been the alternative for Bukovina after the outcome of WW1? As a matter of fact, when it comes to cultural and social aspects, the interwar period brought to Romania a period of prosperity, abruptly stopped by the nationalistic and antisemitic criminal excesses, committed by the Antonescu regime in the shades of Nazi Germany.
