The Return Home of Yossel Wasserman (perhaps because it is considered one
of his less popular novels it is not available in English, I have it in
Dutch) spins an entertaining tale of Jewish life in the shtetls of
Bukovina in the 19th century up until 1941. If you read German, French or
Italian, I highly recommend this book by Edgar Hilsenrath, who lived part
of his youth in Siret.
