Hello Annemarie,
My mother, Ester Stern or Steren, also left Czernowitz about the same
time, in 1928 for medical school in France. She left with seven other
women friends. She studied for a year in Toulouse, then for three years in
Strasbourg, and finally graduated from medical school in Paris in 1935.
They must have known each other. I have many photos with unidentified
people from those years. Her parents also stayed behind in Czernowitz and
survived. However, they ended up in Bucharest, but I don't know how that
came about. Please contact me if you think it could be helpful.
