"Austria first!" might have been the motto for Prof. H. J. Bidermann's book from the year 1876, which is now available at our Czernowitz Book Corner as Book of the Month, October 2019:

In any case Hieronymus Franciscus van Drunen, the author of "A Sanguine Bunch" • Regional Identification in Habsburg Bukovina, 1774-1919 [Book of the Month, January 2015],

is right by stating: "Not only were the publications by Bidermann and Ficker the first works for a larger audience dealing with Austrian Bukovina, they also specifically aimed at glorifying the Austrian achievements on the occasion of an anniversary which in the eyes of Romanian nationalists was no reason to celebrate to begin with."
True, but nevertheless an interesting contemporary document from the end of 19th century!
