Thank you for writing.
Based on my mother’s memoirs, this is what I know of Wilhelm:
Wilhelm and my grandmother Chaie Pessie (Perla) were married in 1912 or possibly early 1913 (My mother was born in November 1913, within a year of the marriage). Here are some extracts from my translation of my mother’s memoirs plus comments from me.
“He (Wilhelm) was from the same area of Northern Romania, Radauti and Storojineti, villages of the Bucovina” (so not from Czernowitz) but of course one of his sisters or cousins (your grandmother) might have been born there.

“The young man chosen for my grandmother Omi, Wilhelm Fuhrmann, had started work for the railroad, so he would be in line for a pension on retirement and he had good prospects for promotion. According to my mother he was tall, blond and blue-eyed, which must have been unusual at the time among Jewish men but the photo I have of him does not make him appear blond”.

“He frequently invited his family, his mother and two sisters, Regina and Lotte, and his favourite niece, Rosl. Regina was a lively woman, and she soon married another railroad employee, called Eisinger”.(This name came up in my mother’s memoirs many years later as my mother and a descendant of the Eisinger family were reunited). “Lotte, the other sister of my grandfather Wilhelm, was epileptic and was therefore difficult to marry off.”
I never knew the name of Wilhelm’s father but I would guess Wilhelm would have been in his 20s in 1912 as he had started work for the railroad company …. Wilhelm was only married to my grandmother for a few years as they divorced - my grandmother had been strong armed into marrying him at 16 by her older brother after the death of their father.
Wilhelm later moved to Putna with his new wife and two sons, Karl and Micky. After the divorce my mother would only see him when she visited him at the age of 14 and spent a summer holiday with them (1927 probably). They lost touch soon after but in the 1960s my mother met her step-brother Karl and his family in a refugee camp in Vienna. They were heading to Israel. She wrote that Wilhelm, his second wife and his son Micky all perished in Transnistria, Karl was the only one who survived – he had been rescued by the Russian army when they liberated the camp.
If this ties up with what you know of your relations called Fuhrmann, please let me know. Just in case there is a relationship between my grandfather and your grandmother, I attach a photograph of Wilhelm which my mother had managed to keep all these years. So few photos exist from her early years that this one must have meant a lot to her. The dedication on the back of the photo states “To my daughter Mikki, in remembrance of her father – Putna 1929” and “photo taken in 1923”. I presume he is wearing his railroad company uniform.
Bruce – if you wish to add this photo to the Czernowitz on-line archives that is fine by me. Not sure of your criteria, but this is definitely a genuine photo.

My maternel grand mother was born Fuhrmann, on 1898 in Czernowitz, I know this family name is commun, do you know the name of Wilhelms father ?
I have a family tree not totally completed but maybe there are names that could be commun.
I live in France, I was born in Bucarest too in 1956, my parents are from Czernowitz, I am retired since two years now and doing alot of genealogy researches.

I am happy to have been admitted to this group. My name is Karin Perrin, ne=

randmother a Kahlenberg - it seems her grandmother did not take her husband=
's name and therefore my maternal grandmother was also a Kahlenberg prior t=
o her marriage at 16. My mother's father was Wilhelm Fuhrmann. Although I =
read the memoirs at the time, my life was too busy with other matters to do=
much about them. However, since my retirement just over a year ago I have =
re-read them and decided that I would like to translate them into English, =
in particular so my daughter and grandchildren can learn more about their a=
ncestry. In the course of doing this I realised that it would be much more=
interesting if I added photographs, maps, etc.. I am scanning in the few p=
hotos I have of my family, as obviously most have been lost. This led to an=
internet search for more information, and I came across more photos of the=
period and discovered your organisation. So far there are 21 typed A4 page=
s with various illustrations as well as comments of my own.
It would be good to know more about the area, the periods before WWI and be=
tween the wars, the lives of those living there, and if perchance there are=
any distant relatives in this group. So I will write again soon with names=
of other family members. It may be that I have information that others mi=
ght find useful.
In the meantime, I look forward to any responses.
