Colleagues,
I recall that during the war in Bosnia, there were organized efforts to provide academic placements for displaced Bosnian scholars as well as students in North American and Western European institutions of higher learning, so that individuals might continue to teach, undertake research, and pursue their studies in relative safety.

I appreciate that many of our Czernowitz friends are committed to staying and doing what they can to serve in the current struggle, but presumably there are some preparing to flee and go into exile, at least for a time. Is there at this point any kind of network that might assist, informally or otherwise, those from the Czernowitz scholarly or arts community find some sort of university placements, if only for a few months? I realize there are many visa complexities to be negotiated, but things are usually easier if there is a formal letter of invitation from a university.

I imagine there is some sort of EU framework for this sort of thing, but are there possibilities that US or Canadian institutions might be willing to serve as hosts of some sort, through visiting lectureships or comparable appointments?

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how this might work, at this momentous time?

warm regards,
Mark
