Explanation:

In Europe of those days every person had to have an identity card, as they still do in many countries today, but Jews not only had to wear a yellow star on their clothing, but their identity cards were stamped with a star as well. (document 3 below)

The inside  of card  (above) gives particulars about my father, Salomon Reifer and among other information says: religion - mosaic (religion of Moses) Ethnic origin - Jew.

It further says that my father changed residence, moving to Str. Cronicarul Neculce #3 on May 22, 1942 and this address was verified for the year1943.

Extracts from the regulations

article 26. Romanians who establish residence in the urban community must present themselves within 15 days of arrival and must  be inscribed at the office of population and the respective police district.

article 29. Foreigners who establish ordinary residence, whether urban or rural, with the completion of the legal papers, are required to register the latter at the office of population within 24 hours  of obtaining the card of free staying in the country.

article 31. Persons who change their residence, are required to declare this at the office of Population at least 48 hours before changing residence to another comunity or other country.

article 35. Also during the period of 48 hours indicated above, those who change residence within a comunity to another street or within the same street have to make such a declaration.

article 77. Those who do not conform to the above measures, will be refered to the judicial system and will be fined 500 - 1000 lei.
