In the night of 23 August 1944

A group of 14 Jews from Czernowitz tried to cross clandestine the
border from the Soviet occupied Bukovina near the village of Hertsa, to Romania.
Half of the group crossed the border (between them my mother - Mimi Emilia
Segal). The Soviet border guard discovered the other half of the group and
arrested them (between them my father - Herman Segal, and myself - Norbert Segal
