Hi Bruce,

Thanks for checking the registers for me. It's possible the Mina Lobl
you found who died in 1918 is my great-grandmother, but would need more
info to confirm this. The Schulem Loebl who died in 1935 is possible,
too; he would have been about 78 years old at the time. My mother told
me they both died in the epidemic of 1918, but this is second-hand
information and she said her father rarely spoke about his family.

I checked the listing on the web site of people buried in the Sadagura
portion of the Baron Hirsch Cemetery in Staten Island; I'm sure this
listing is incomplete. For one thing, my grandparent's names are not
there (Jacob & Dora Lobel). I've been to the cemetery a number of times
and remember my mother and grandmother pointing out graves of my
grandfather's friends and associates from the First Sadagora YMBA and I
don't recognize any of the names on Linda Vann's list, so there must be
more that belong on the list.

Has anyone tried getting cemetery records from Baron Hirsch? My mother
(age 80) still sends payment to Baron Hirsch for upkeep on her parent's
gravesites, and they must have complete burial records at the cemetery
office. Some cemeteries have posted their records on websites.

The record I have relating to the First Sadagura YMBA is a copy of the
minutes of their meetings that my grandfather kept when he was the
secretary, from March 1955 to December 1959. These are written almost
entirely in Hebrew, which I can't read. There are a few members' names
in English -

Sussman (that would be my great-uncle & aunt, Philip and Minnie) Mrs.
Sarah Feuer Mrs. Wachtel, sister of Joseph Popel Levine Levitt Wolkowitz
Hias (might not be a person, but an organization)

Some years ago I donated a copy of these notes to YIVO's landsmanshaftn
archives. I never got them translated, but if anyone on the list would
like to do this, I'd be glad to send a photocopy. There may be a
goldmine of information contained in them, or at least it would be fun
and interesting to see what took place at these meetings. It consists
of 68 handwritten,
6 x 9" pages.

Hi Larry:

Though the Czernowitz burial register database isn't yet finished, I
looked through the section for letter L, 1917-1919, and found several
Lobls (o with umlaut), but no Schulem. There was a Mina Lobl,
however, who died in 1918 - possibly your Mantsye?

There is a Schulem Loebl who died in 1935 - wonder if that's him or a
relative?

There is another place to find information on Unter-Stanestie on the
JewishGen yizkor book site:
http://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/Bukowinabook/bukowina.html

Click on the link to Unter Stanestie on this page.

On the Sadagora ShtetLinks web site (address below), you'll see a
link to the burial listing for the First Sadagora YMBA. I posted
this based on a sometimes hard to read copy of the burial map given
to me by Linda Vann. If you can help me fill out the listing based
on your father's files, that would be terrific.

Welcome to the group!

Best wishes,
Bruce Reisch
