Hello Czernowitzers -
We had a mini-Bukovina group gathering at the International Jewish
Genealogy Meeting in Toronto in 2002. Then we also had a larger
lunch time meeting in Washington, D.C. the following summer, again in
conjunction with the International Jewish Genealogy meeting, with
over 20 of us in attendance.
I think it would be great for group members to meet, face-to-face,
whenever and wherever convenient. There are several members in
Toronto, many in Israel, others in New York. Those in Europe could
meet at any central location, and that would depend on who is willing
to organize the event.
I hope that the reunion Malvina is planning/organizing to take place
in Vienna, and possibly Czernowitz as well, isn't the only
get-together to be planned. Since she'll be in Vienna anyway it
would be a great opportunity for her to meet with anyone also there
or willing to travel there. I also completely understand why some
members would not want to meet in Vienna considering what happened to
as a result of German and Austrian anti-semitism. In my own opinion,
anti-semitism is found in many places, sometimes hidden, sometimes
not, yet every time we have a chance during our travels to promote
respect and tolerance for people of all backgrounds, we should do so.
Most of us probably do this already; this is just my own humble
opinion and is the reason why I willingly travel to many places
whenever I have the opportunity. In fact, I've had the unfortunate
opportunity several times to challenge anti-semitic activities in my
small upstate town of Geneva, New York.
Gaby - if the folks who organized the reunion in Florida a few years
ago plan to do another in the near future, can you keep us informed?
Many thanks,
Bruce
