Gottesman was a Czernowitzer, it might be of
interest to some of you. She also was a cousin of my mother and I am
very proud of her.

Last week it was announced that my mother was awarded a National Heritage
Fellowship by the National Endowment of the Arts in Washington for her
Yiddish poetry, singing and songwriting. . This is the highest honor that a
folk artist can receive in America. In September she will be invited to a
banquet at the Library of Congress, and be given the award at a ceremony on
Capitol Hill (maybe the White House), and be presented with a check for
