The word "mahala" means in Romanian the neighborhoods at the edge of any
city where poor people used to live. Normally the places were the peasants
coming to town to find work, used to settle. ("Shanty town")

Czernowitzers:
I received this today and wonder if anyone on the list has ever heard of
'MAHALA' or something close to that place name in the vicinity of
Czernowitz? Feel free to contact Katy directly. If you do have information,
why not post it to the list also? I'm sure others might be interested as am
I.
Best regards,
jerome
