And more:Mahala is of Tatarian origin, Rumanian archaism, and means only
poor suburb, (a common suburb is:PERIFERIE) and is much more a nickname.

The word "mahala" means in Romanian the neighborhoods at the edge of any
city where poor people used to live. Normally the places were the peasants
coming to town to find work, used to settle. ("Shanty town")
