I have been following the discussions regarding the Cz cemetery. I
agree with those of you who
feel that expecting the Mayor of Cz. to contribute financially to the
restoration is a far cry and a very false hope.
Ukraine is a poor country, and restoration of the cemetery is a low
priority on the lists of its
projects for the improvement of the living standards of its people,
roads, schools, hospitals, cultural events etc..
Viewing the photographs of the cemetery on Cornels road trip, it shows
that it is dilapidated, overgrown
with weeds and needs serious money which could only be raised by
associations such as the
Heritage Foundation for Preservation of Jewish Cemeteries and The World
of Bukovinian Jews.
We need a representative of our organization to approach these
associations and see if they could
fund this project and then, should we raise the finances, through them,
the restoration of the
cemetery must be supervised by one or more of our members. The funds
cannot just be handed
over to the Mayor of Cz or even the synagogue and expect the money to go
to the right place.
